At the end of November, AAF members had the opportunity to traverse through the urban jungle of New York City for Advertising Women of New York’s (AWNY) 59th annual Advertising Career Conference. The experience was accompanied with visits to ad agencies, UIUC Alumni career panel, coffee with professionals and of course, getting lost.
Members immersed into the city’s culture and were enlightened by the various experiences it offered. During the duration of the trip, members discovered new passions and their passion for success was relit.
AWNY was a beneficial experience for the attendees. Therefore, AAF has decided to launch a mini campaign to inform and get more AAF members in attending next year with a weekly AWNY Experience Student Spotlight. The spotlights will highlight one member to give more details about their adventures at the conference.
AWNY Experience Student Spotlight: ANISSA VASQUEZ
What was your favorite part of the whole trip?
“My absolute favorite part of the whole trip was exploring Central Park, and finding the television series ‘Friends’ Chapel Hill. We reenacted and filmed the famous intro with the song, “I’ll be there for youuu”. We were definitely the entertainment for Chapel Hill. Picking one single moment from the handful of amazing memories at AWNY is tough, but this is my favorite, because it’s when I realized I wouldn’t have met my best friends without AAF.”
How would you quote your experience in New York?
“Filled with experiences you can not put into words.”
Any advice you would give to anyone who hasn’t been to AWNY?
“Get lost, take chances, and explore; not only the city, but yourself.”
Your New york experience in three words.
“Party. Coffee. People.”
How did this trip help you, whether it was finding a newfound passion/interest/career or self-exploration?
“I never thought I’d say it, but because of AWNY, I am now. I want to go into research. I really didn’t know what I wanted to do in advertising, and still really not sure, but at least I know where I want to start now.”
